Director and Deputy Director of Government Information Bureau sworn into office
MACAU, September 29 - Mr Wong Lok I, and Ms Ieong Pou Kam were sworn into office today at the Government Headquarters as Director and Deputy Director, respectively, of the Government Information Bureau (GCS). The oath-taking ceremony was administered by the Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, and witnessed by the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms Chan Kak.
Under Executive Order No. 172/2026, Mr Wong’s appointment as GCS Director is with effect from 11 July 2026. According to Executive Order No. 212/2026, Ms Ieong’s appointment as GCS Deputy Director is with effect from 1 September 2026. Both appointments are for a term of one year.
Mr Wong holds a Bachelor degree in International Journalism and Mass Communication from Jinan University. He also holds two Master’s degrees: one in International Relations from Jinan University, and the other in Computer-aided Translation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Mr Wong joined GCS in 1996 as Senior Technical Officer and was assigned as Head of the Research and Publications Division from February 2000 to February 2011. He was promoted to be the Head of the Information Department from February 2011 to February 2014. Since 2014, he has been Deputy Director of GCS; and had served as Acting Director from July 2025.
Ms Ieong holds a Bachelor degree in English Communication from the University of Macau; a Master’s degree in Communication from Hong Kong Baptist University; and a Master’s degree jointly awarded by Peking University and the National Academy of Governance. She joined GCS in 2000 and served in various roles including as Editor, Technical Officer, and Senior Technical Officer. From 2015 to February 2023, she was the Head of the Information Department. Under her leadership, the department was awarded the Medal of Merit by the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government in 2022. From March 2023 to August 2025, she served as Head of the General Affairs Department at the Government Headquarters Affairs Bureau. She had been Acting Deputy Director of GCS from September 2025.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Wong expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the Chief Executive’s trust and support. He affirmed his commitment to staying true to his original mission and faithfully fulfilling his duties, while leading the GCS team in continuing to serve as a bridge between the MSAR Government and the public.
Director Wong pledged to implement fully the guiding principles of President Xi Jinping’s speeches and the central authorities’ decisions; to align closely with the MSAR Government’s policy priorities; and to enhance the effectiveness of international communication by strengthening the dissemination of information in Portuguese, English, and other languages.
Mr Wong also committed to adopting innovative communication methods to tell the world the story of Macao’s successful implementation of the “One country, two systems” principle, showcasing Macao’s achievements as “One Centre, One Platform, and One Base”. He further pledged to promote constructive interaction between the MSAR Government and the media, contributing to a positive and harmonious social environment.
