Inaugural “City-wide Courtesy” series of activities to be held in mid-October, welcoming public participation
MACAU, September 25 - For the continuous promotion of the civic education concepts of “Courtesy Living Charter”, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will host the inaugural “City-wide Courtesy” series of activities from 17 to 31 October, aiming to deepen public understanding of civic etiquette, municipal functions, and community services, while fostering the spirit of loving the motherland and Macao, and collectively creating a social atmosphere characterised by respect, friendliness, and order. The series of activities features a diverse programme comprising 16 types of activities across 43 sessions, open to members of the public, schools, and community organisations in Macao. All are welcomed to participate in the activities.
The event will be inaugurated at Tap Seac Square on 17 October at 2:00 p.m., with an interactive experience zone set up to feature themed photo-taking spots, stamp mark-collection activity with prizes, instant photo services, and game booths. Various types of workshops will also be organised to allow participants to experience the meaning of courtesy living through hands-on activities. Moreover, a dedicated area will be set up to introduce municipal functions, allowing the public to learn more about the various services and work of IAM in a relaxed atmosphere. The event will also host the “Civic Education – Courteous Orienteering” competition and awards ceremony, as well as the exhibition of entries and awards ceremony for the “Chinese Dream‧Ethnic Sentiment” Children’s Creative Colouring Competition.
Throughout the half-month event, a series of engaging activities will be launched successively, covering themes such as knowledge competitions, parent-child education, guided cultural appreciation, and community inclusion, including the “Quiz on Municipal Affairs”, “Courtesy Living Parent-Child Storytelling Competition”, “Good Citizen Puppet Show”, “Neighbourly Courtesy Fun Day”, “Courtesy Living—Community Tour and Rapid-Fire Q&A”, for the participation of people of all ages. To strengthen civic education among the foreign worker community, a special promotional campaign titled “Foreign Employees Gathering: A Courteous Macao” will be held to foster multicultural inclusion. Additionally, the “Day Class on Municipal Affairs” allows students to visit government departments and learn about their operations. Besides, the “Traditional Chinese Arts & Crafts Workshops” passes on culture through hands-on experiences; and the “Courtesy Living Four-Panel Comic Creation Competition” encourages young people to depict their vision of a civilised society with creativity.
The series of activities also emphasises cultural heritage and community connections. The guided tour “Knowing about Macao—Taking a Walk Through the Streets of Macao” integrates elements of intangible cultural heritage with local stories, leading the public through the streets to explore local history, while concurrent community touring exhibitions are held to elevate event coverage. Additionally, the thematic seminar and exhibition titled “Cultural Exploration of 56 Ethnic Groups” will be organised in the form of dedicated sessions for groups to foster an understanding of the diverse cultures of the Chinese nation and further deepen patriotic sentiment.
Through the inaugural “City-wide Courtesy” series of activities, IAM aims to transform civic education from one-way publicity into multiple means of engagement, so that “courtesy” is not merely a slogan but a value integrated into everyday behaviours. In the future, IAM will continue to improve the activities and strengthen collaboration with schools, associations, and various sectors in normalising and making courtesy living relatable to the public’s daily life, thereby jointly building a civilised and harmonious society in Macao.
