Chinese Embassy in Nepal Launches the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship to Support Disaster-Affected Students

On September 21, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming held a meeting with Hon’ble Sasmit Pokharel,  Minister for Education and Sports of Nepal.

Ambassador Zhang stated that immediately after the devastating floods and mudslides that struck Nepal and China  on August 26, the Chinese Government and people responded swiftly and provided all-out assistance for Nepal’s emergency rescue and post-disaster rehabilitation. The disaster severely damaged schools across affected regions and inflicted heavy losses on local students and their families. Out of deep empathy and friendship, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal has decided to launch the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship for outstanding students in disaster-affected areas, aiming to help them continue their education.

Minister Pokharel expressed sincere gratitude for China’s generous and timely assistance. He commended China’s thoughtful support for disaster-affected students, adding that Nepal would work closely with the Chinese side to ensure the smooth implementation of the scholarship programme and help affected families resume normal life at the earliest possible date.

Ambassador Zhang and Minister Pokharel jointly handed over the scholarship fund to Dr. Harish Chandra Shah, President of the Nepal-China Cultural and Educational Council, the designated organization for the implementation of the program.
