The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China issued RMB-denominated sovereign bonds successfully in Macao for the fifth consecutive year

MACAU, August 20 - The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China issued RMB-denominated sovereign bonds successfully today (20 August) in Macao. The Monetary Authority of Macao congratulates the successful issuance of sovereign bonds and expresses sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Finance for its long-term support to the cultivation of bond market in Macao. The sovereign bonds issuance is offered to the professional investors, with an issuance size of RMB 6 billion, comprising tranches of RMB 3 billion 2-year sovereign bonds with acoupon rate of 1.30%, RMB 1 billion 3-year sovereign bonds with a coupon rate of 1.33%, RMB 1 billion 5-year sovereign bonds with a coupon rate of 1.46% and RMB 1 billion 10-year sovereign bonds with a coupon rate of 1.76%. The issuance of sovereign bonds was highly welcomed by the market and recorded an over subscription.

As year 2026 marks the commencement of both the National 15th Five-Year Plan and Macao’s 3rd Five-Year Plan, the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China has issued RMB‑denominated sovereign bonds in Macao for the fifth consecutive year, with an expanded range of tenors. It demonstrates the support from the Central Government for Macao in fostering high‑quality growth in its featured financial sector and advancing the appropriate diversification of its economy.To date, the cumulative issuance of RMB‑denominated sovereign bonds by the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China has reached RMB 27 billion. The continued issuance of sovereign bonds in Macao serves to further refine the regular issuance mechanism and plays an active role in attracting a broader spectrum of high‑quality issuers and investors to Macao’s bond market.
