China Issues Warning to Nationals in Japan Amid Security Threats Claim
The Chinese Embassy in Japan released an official advisory Saturday highlighting what it characterized as deteriorating public safety conditions throughout the nation. The diplomatic mission pointed to a series of violent episodes occurring in Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Aichi prefectures as evidence of growing risks.
According to embassy reports, numerous Chinese visitors have filed complaints describing unprovoked verbal harassment and physical attacks that left victims injured.
The diplomatic notice drew particular attention to a December 31 vehicle assault in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward that left two Chinese nationals with severe injuries requiring urgent medical intervention.
Chinese diplomatic officials reiterated their recommendation that citizens postpone non-essential travel to Japan.
Japanese government representatives had not issued any public response to the embassy's allegations as of Monday evening.
Relations between Beijing and Tokyo have deteriorated sharply since November 7, when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declared that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could legally constitute a "survival-threatening situation," potentially allowing Japan to exercise the right of collective self-defense.
Takaichi's statement sparked fierce condemnation from Chinese authorities. Beijing responded with sweeping countermeasures including renewed travel advisories warning against visits to Japan and the reinstatement of a comprehensive seafood import prohibition, alongside additional retaliatory actions.
