China Condemns UK Sanctions on Chinese Firms
(MENAFN) China has issued "stern representations" to the United Kingdom following London’s announcement of sanctions against 11 Chinese organizations accused of supporting Russia's energy sector and providing essential equipment for Moscow’s defense industry, according to reports from state media on Thursday.
A spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy in the UK stated on Wednesday that "China firmly opposes these sanctions" and called on the British government to "immediately" revoke the punitive measures.
On the same day, the UK imposed sanctions on both Russian and Chinese entities as part of its efforts to increase pressure on the Kremlin amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
British Treasury Secretary Rachel Reeves explained that the government is executing a "targeted" crackdown on companies based in India and China that continue to facilitate the movement of Russian oil into international markets.
Beijing responded by characterizing the UK's sanctions as unilateral measures lacking any foundation in international law.
According to the embassy spokesperson, these sanctions damage the lawful rights and interests of Chinese businesses.
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the spokesperson emphasized that China has maintained a neutral and balanced stance, committed itself to advancing peace negotiations, and strictly controlled the export of dual-use goods following relevant laws and regulations.
The embassy further stated that routine interactions and collaboration between Chinese and Russian enterprises should not be disrupted or influenced, while firmly rejecting any efforts aimed at shifting blame or tarnishing China’s reputation.
