South Korea Seeks Deeper Ties with China, US
This declaration came in response to recent statements made by Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, who referred to China as “somewhat problematic” in its regional conduct.
The office of the South Korean President clarified the minister's comments by stating: "We're seeking to develop our bilateral relations with China based on the staunch South Korea-U.S. alliance."
This affirmation underlined Seoul’s balanced diplomatic approach between Washington and Beijing.
In a recent discussion with a news outlet, the nation’s chief diplomat explained that China’s increasing dominance had caused its neighboring countries to become “alert,” emphasizing a "problem of China becoming somewhat problematic" in its interactions across the region, as cited by the news agency.
The presidential statement elaborated that "Minister Cho's remarks were made in the context of South Korea's continued efforts to build a relationship with China that contributes to regional stability, prosperity and the well-being of people."
This illustrates South Korea’s aim to foster peace and mutual benefit through cooperation with Beijing.
Minister Cho further remarked that the government under President Lee Jae Myung seeks to maintain constructive relations with China while also pursuing active collaboration with the United States and Japan, striving to engage China rather than push it into isolation.
