South African public officials' group is set to visit China
The initiative is organized by the National School of Government (NSG), which stated that the delegation will receive training at Beijing Jiaotong University. The program is being supported by China’s Ministry of Commerce and is designed to help South African officials improve the effectiveness of local governance and respond to the increasing demands and complexities faced by municipalities.
“Municipalities have a critical role in the achievement of this commitment. The exchange program on city governance is part of the NSG's international exchanges that are aimed at facilitating public servants' access to specialist knowledge and skills needed to enhance public sector performance and learning from the development trajectory of other countries in the Global South and North,” said Busani Ngcaweni, principal of the NSG.
Ngcaweni explained that the program will cover various aspects of China’s advancements in local government operations, including improved service delivery, smart city infrastructure, governance modernization, participatory administration, development strategies, and poverty reduction.
He also noted that China effectively leveraged its local governments as a key mechanism for implementing national strategies, which played a significant role in eliminating absolute poverty by 2020.
